The design

The site is designed as a finishing shop's sample wall. The ground is near white. The surfaces take the tone of freshly sanded white oak. The ink takes the tone of ebonized oak. The one accent is painter's tape blue, the one non-wood color at every real refinishing job. The calculator sits in the page as a light inlay panel. Every text color was checked against WCAG contrast math before it shipped.

The type

Headings are set in Vollkorn, by Friedrich Althausen. Body text is Source Sans 3, by Adobe. Every figure, price, and table numeral is Spline Sans Mono. All three are open fonts under the SIL Open Font License. We host the files ourselves. So no page here calls a font service or any other third party.

The stack

Built with the Astro static site framework and served by Cloudflare Pages. There is no analytics script and no advertising code. The search runs entirely in your browser.

Images

Every picture on this site is computer generated, made with an image model (Higgsfield soul_location) in August 2026. None of them is a photograph of a real job, a real house, or work by us or by any contractor. They show the conditions the pages describe: a floor sanded to bare wood, a finish worn through in a walking path, cupped boards after a leak. Each one was checked by eye before it shipped, and any frame carrying text, a person, or a maker's mark was thrown away rather than used.

None of them carries a caption or a credit, and that is the disclosure rather than an oversight: on this site a credit means a real photograph by a real photographer, so an uncredited picture is a generated one. A build check holds both halves of that true. Every image carries alt text describing what it shows. The remaining graphics are drawn in code: the three-board mark in the masthead, the favicon, and the share card. The full list, with what each picture is and where it sits, is in `docs/image-licenses.md` in the site's repository.

The numbers and their sourcing are described on the methodology page; anything that looks wrong is worth an email via the contact page.
